Samui is an excellent base for day trips across the Gulf of Thailand. Within 20–70 km of the island lie several scenic destinations with strong snorkeling appeal.

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park

A 42-island archipelago 30 km northwest of Samui and one of Thailand's most photographed landscapes. A typical day tour includes a stop at the Emerald Lake lagoon (Talay Nai), snorkeling in turquoise coves, and a short hike to a viewpoint overlooking the archipelago. Speedboats from Nathon pier take 30–40 minutes each way.

Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuan

Tiny Koh Nang Yuan — three islets connected by sandbars — is one of the Gulf's most iconic viewpoints. Koh Tao is roughly 70 km from Samui; speedboats take about 2 hours. Combined tours allow you to visit both islands in a single day.

Koh Phangan

25 km north of Samui. A day on Phangan gives access to quieter beaches — Had Yuan and Had Tian — and the less-visited north shore. Some tours include snorkeling stops en route.

Koh Tan & Koh Madsum

Small islands 6 km south of Samui, popular for half-day snorkeling. Shallow coral reefs with gentle currents make them ideal for children and beginners. Accessible by longtail boat (~20 minutes from Samui's south coast).

What to Bring

Towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a change of clothes, and cash baht (ATMs may be unavailable on smaller islands). If prone to seasickness, take medication 30 minutes before departure.
