Lamai Beach is Koh Samui's second most popular beach after Chaweng, located on the island's southeast coast. It stretches for 4 kilometers and combines everything needed for a wonderful holiday: clean white sand, warm sea, good infrastructure — and a more relaxed atmosphere than Chaweng.

Natural Landmark: Hin Ta and Hin Yai Rocks

Lamai's most famous natural attraction is the Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks, popularly known as Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks. These peculiar rock formations, shaped by the sea and wind, are located at the southern end of the beach and are very popular with tourists. Entry to the viewing area is free, and photography is unrestricted.

The Beach and Sea

Lamai has all the hallmarks of an ideal tropical beach. Fine white sand, palm trees, and clean warm water invite you to spend entire days here. The beach is slightly quieter than Chaweng — less noise, fewer crowds, more space.

Near the northern headland of the beach, conditions are excellent for snorkeling. The underwater world is rich with colorful fish and corals. The best time for snorkeling is in the morning, when the water is clearest.

Family-Friendly

Lamai is considered one of the best places on Samui for a family holiday. The sea is relatively calm, with a gentle slope into the water that is safe for children. Cafes and restaurants with children's menus line the beach, and souvenir markets will delight kids with crafts and trinkets.

Infrastructure

Numerous restaurants, bars, massage parlors, and shops line the beach road. Prices here are generally lower than at Chaweng. In the evening, the strip comes alive with seafood restaurants, dance bars, and night markets creating a tropical festival atmosphere.

Getting There

Lamai is about 25 kilometers from Koh Samui Airport. You can get there by taxi, songthaew, or rented motorbike. The journey from the airport takes approximately 30–40 minutes.
