Main Hospitals

Bangkok Hospital Samui (Chaweng area) is the island's flagship private hospital. It covers a wide range of specialisations including general medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, cardiology and dentistry. It operates 24 hours and accepts most international health insurance policies.

Samui International Hospital (North Chaweng) is a well-regarded private hospital offering comprehensive services including emergency care and routine check-ups.

Bandon International Hospital (Maenam) is convenient for those living on the north coast.

The public Koh Samui Hospital in Nathon offers lower-cost treatment but longer waiting times and a more limited English service.

Health Insurance

Health insurance is essential for expats on Samui. Without it, private hospital bills can be substantial. Popular international insurers include BUPA International, AXA, Cigna and Pacific Cross. A basic policy for an adult under 40 starts at around $800–1,200 per year.

Pharmacies

Pharmacies are widely available across the island. Many common medications are sold without a prescription. Major chains such as Boots and Watsons can be found in Chaweng shopping centres. For specific medications, it is advisable to bring a supply from home or check availability in advance.
