International Schools on Koh Samui: Curricula, Fees and Enrolment
International schools on Koh Samui: IB and British curricula, tuition fees and enrolment advice for expat families.
Koh Samui is one of the few Thai islands with genuine international schools offering English-language instruction and internationally recognised curricula.
Types of International Schools
Schools on the island operate under three main educational systems.
British curriculum schools follow UK standards including IGCSEs and A-Levels, teaching entirely in English and accepting children from age 2 to 18.
IB (International Baccalaureate) — some Samui schools offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), ensuring curriculum continuity when families relocate to any country.
Thai-English bilingual schools combine the Thai national curriculum with strong English-language instruction.
School Fees
Annual tuition at Samui's international schools ranges from approximately 150,000 to 450,000 THB (≈USD 4,500–13,500), depending on the programme and the child's age. Uniforms, textbooks, field trips and meals are often charged separately.
Kindergartens and Pre-Schools
Several international kindergartens on the island accept children from age 2–3. Full-day programmes, English instruction and small class sizes are standard. Monthly fees start from around 25,000 THB.
Enrolment and Documents
Most schools accept applications year-round. Required documents typically include the child's birth certificate, recent school reports and a health certificate. Many schools administer placement tests to assess English proficiency and overall development.
Practical Tips
Visit the school on a tour day, speak with current parents and confirm transport coverage — many schools run bus services to major areas of the island. Reserve a place 3–6 months before your planned move to avoid missing out on popular year groups.
