Koh Samui is Thailand's third-largest island (after Phuket and Koh Chang) and one of its most popular destinations. Located in the Gulf of Thailand, it offers calm seas and no tsunami risk (unlike the western Andaman Sea coast).

When to Visit

Samui has a tropical climate with three seasons: - High season (December–April): sunny, calm sea, maximum prices - Low season (October–November): possible rain, rough sea, minimum prices - Shoulder season (May–September): variable cloud cover, brief showers, good prices

Unlike Phuket and Krabi, Samui has no sharply defined rainy season — precipitation is more evenly distributed throughout the year.

Areas of Samui

Chaweng

The most popular and developed beach. Huge selection of accommodation, restaurants, clubs, and shops. Ideal for those who want to be in the center of activity. The beach stretches 7 km of white sand.

Lamai

The second most popular beach. Quieter than Chaweng but with good infrastructure. Popular among couples and those seeking a balance between activity and relaxation.

Bophut

Famous for Fisherman's Village — an area of restored Sino-Thai shops with boutiques and restaurants. Friday evening features the Walking Street Market. A more relaxed atmosphere than Chaweng.

Maenam

A calm beach on the north coast with great views of Koh Phangan. Many affordable restaurants and a relaxed ambiance. Ideal for long stays.

Choeng Mon

A small cozy beach in the northeast. Good selection of villas and hotels. Suitable for families with children — gentle entry and calm water.

Taling Ngam

A wild, uncrowded beach. Excellent sunset views. Perfect for those seeking seclusion.

Lipa Noi

A calm beach on the west coast. Gentle entry, minimal waves — good for children.
