Big C is a major Thai hypermarket chain. On Koh Samui, the main store is located in Chaweng, and for most residents of the island it's the go-to place for groceries and household supplies. Here's what's available, why it's worth the trip, and what things cost.

Where to Find Big C in Koh Samui

The main Big C is in the centre of Chaweng, on the main Ring Road (Chaweng Road). It's next to Central Festival shopping mall, a 5–10 minute walk from Chaweng Beach.

Opening hours: daily, 8am–10pm (in-store sections from 9am–9pm).
Parking: large free car park.

A second Big C is in Nathon on the west coast — smaller and more local in character.

Fresh Food and Groceries

The main reason to shop here. Selection and prices are significantly better than at 7-Eleven or Family Mart:

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables: mango, pineapple, papaya, banana, pomelo. Prices roughly half what you'd pay at tourist spots.
  • Meat and seafood: fresh and frozen. Thai specialities include tilapia, prawns, squid, octopus.
  • Dairy: imported cheeses, yoghurts, milk.
  • Bread and bakery: in-store bakery with fresh bread daily.
  • Spices and sauces: extensive selection of Thai curry pastes, fish sauce, coconut milk — ideal for home cooking.

Household and Personal Care

Large section with soap, shampoo, toothpaste, laundry powder. Prices are 2–3x lower than at Chaweng pharmacies. Also: cleaning products, sponges, plastic containers.

Clothing and Textiles

A whole floor of clothing. Basics — T-shirts, shorts, underwear — are very affordable: 100–200 baht per item. Good for everyday and beach use. No branded fashion.

Electronics and Appliances

Small section with chargers, adapters, headphones, fans, and small appliances. Fine for urgent purchases.

Pharmacy

The in-store pharmacy is well-stocked. You can buy paracetamol, antihistamines, antimalarials, sunscreen, plasters. Prices are lower than at Chaweng Beach pharmacies.

Tips

  • Best time to visit: weekday mornings before 11am or after 8pm — shortest queues.
  • Food court: at the Big C entrance there's a food court serving Thai food for 50–80 baht per dish — some of the best prices in Chaweng.
  • Cards: Visa/Mastercard and Apple Pay accepted. Minimum card purchase is usually 100 baht.
  • Bags: plastic bags are charged at 1–2 baht — bring your own or buy a reusable bag in-store.
