Koh Samui has dozens of beaches — from busy tourist stretches to quiet, almost empty bays. For a romantic walk or a calm day as a couple, knowing where to go matters. This guide covers the island's most suitable beaches for pairs.

Choeng Mon

A small bay on the north-eastern tip of the island. One of the quietest, most secluded beaches on Samui. White sand, calm water, a handful of restaurants at the shore. Far fewer tourists than Chaweng — exactly what makes Choeng Mon appealing for couples.

Several small islets just offshore are visually picturesque. On a good day you can swim across. Sunset is not visible here (east-facing beach), but the sunrise and early morning hours are lovely.

Best time: early morning or late evening. Water is calm year-round except November–December.

Taling Ngam

The western coast of Samui. One of the best beaches for sunset on the island. A long stretch of shore with almost no tourists, views of the Ang Thong archipelago on the horizon. Minimal infrastructure — no beach clubs, a few cafés.

The atmosphere is quiet and unhurried. Good for a long walk along the shore, a candlelit dinner at one of the small restaurants, or simply watching the sun go down.

Best time: after 4 pm. Sunset around 6:30–7 pm depending on the season.

Silver Beach (Hat Thong Taan)

A small beach between Chaweng and Lamai. Hidden from the main road; you reach it on foot or by motorbike. As a result, far fewer people than at the neighbouring large beaches. Crystal-clear water, fine sand.

Minimal infrastructure: a few sun loungers, one or two small establishments. This is exactly what makes Silver Beach a good choice for couples seeking quiet and a pretty view without the crowds.

Best time: weekdays, morning. Even here it can get busy on weekends.

Hin Ta Hin Yai

Rock formations on the southern shore of Lamai. A popular tourist attraction, but the small adjoining beach is much quieter. Beautiful views of the rocks, secluded spots between the boulders.

Not a swimming spot (rocks are close), but great for a walk, a photo session or a romantic evening visit. Several restaurants overlook the rocks directly — dinner with a view is available.

Mae Nam

A long, quiet beach on the north coast. The sea here is calmer than on the east shore, and less visited than Chaweng. Palm shade, a few local restaurants at the water's edge. Good for long walks.

On Thursdays, the village of Mae Nam holds a small evening market — combining the beach and the market makes for a pleasant, unhurried evening for two.

Coral Cove

A tiny bay between Chaweng and Lamai. Rocky entry, crystal water — the best spot on Samui for snorkelling directly from the shore. For romantic couples, an opportunity to explore the underwater world together. One restaurant overlooks the cove from the rocks above.

Best time: morning (fewer people) or late afternoon (beautiful light). Access from the road is a short steep descent.

Tips for a romantic beach day

  • Bring a picnic basket — local supermarkets (Makro, Villa Market) are well stocked with fruit, snacks and wine.
  • A motorbike beats a car for smaller beaches — easier to park, and you can stop for viewpoints along the way.
  • Sunsets are only visible from west-facing beaches (Taling Ngam, Nathon). East-facing beaches offer sunrises and soft morning light.
  • Best sea conditions: December–April. In October–November the east coast can be rough — opt for the western or northern shore.

Samui is small — you can visit several beaches in a day and find the one that feels right. The main thing: don't limit yourself to Chaweng. Explore the island's quiet bays.
