Silver Beach, also known as Crystal Bay, is a small but breathtakingly beautiful beach on Koh Samui's east coast, nestled between Chaweng and Lamai. It is one of the island's true hidden gems, often missed by tourists passing by.

What Makes Silver Beach Special

The defining feature of Silver Beach is its crystal-clear water of an extraordinary turquoise color. Due to the shape of the seabed and the absence of strong currents, the water here remains remarkably clear even in windy weather. The depth near the shore is shallow, making the beach safe for children.

The beach itself is small — only about 200 meters long — and flanked by rocks on both sides. This creates the effect of a secluded cove: peaceful, beautiful, and deeply relaxing.

Snorkeling

Silver Beach is one of the best snorkeling spots on the entire island. Coral reefs lie just a few meters from the shoreline. Underwater, you can see numerous species of tropical fish: parrotfish, angelfish, clownfish, and other reef inhabitants. Snorkeling equipment is available for rent directly on the beach.

The best time for snorkeling is from morning until midday, when the sun is high and illuminates the reefs. During these hours, the water is especially clear, with visibility reaching 5–8 meters.

Atmosphere

Despite its small size, Silver Beach is not entirely deserted — especially in high season. However, it is always calmer here than at Chaweng or Lamai. The beach has a handful of cafes and restaurants with sea views, where you can enjoy a fresh coconut or Thai cuisine while gazing at the turquoise water.

Best Time to Visit

The best period to visit Silver Beach is from November to April. During this time, the water is calmest and clearest, and the weather is consistently sunny. Between October and December, the east coast of Samui can experience storms and large waves — on such days, swimming is not advisable.

Getting There

Silver Beach is located on the road connecting Chaweng and Lamai. The turnoff is not very conspicuous — look for a sign reading "Silver Beach" or "Crystal Bay." The most convenient way to get there is by rented motorbike or car. From Chaweng, it's about a 10-minute drive.

Tip

Arrive early in the morning — before 9:00 AM — to find the beach nearly empty. At this time it is stunningly beautiful: sunlight pierces the water, fish feed near the reef surface, and the beach is almost deserted. A perfect place for a meditative start to the day.
