The Bang Por beach area is not particularly overloaded with buildings and infrastructure in itself, and the cluster of houses where this mansion stands is set steeply up the hill, away from the few neighbours. This part of the island has a series of uneven and lies very close to the coastline. The ring road separating the inner part of the district from the beach was, at the time of inspection (September 2015), under active renovation — likely to continue for two to three months. There are no large shops; a couple of minimarkets and private Thai stalls and cafes.
The property is not an organised development — all the houses (about ten of them) belong to different owners, so the shared road leading from the ring road to the houses looks a bit worn. No barrier, no fence, no CCTV, no security. Just a small village of good one- and two-storey houses, surrounded by greenery and flowers, with a stunning sea view.
The house stands on concrete stilts and has for a long time; the load-bearing walls are of brick and wood. Combined with wicker furniture, hammocks, and the panorama, this creates a charmingly cosy island-house atmosphere. The entire ground floor is taken up by the living room, two bedrooms, and the kitchen. Each ground-floor bedroom has its own bathroom. The upper floor is a mansard. There is no air-conditioner here, unlike downstairs, so during the day it gets warm even with a fan. The house is furnished and equipped with the necessary appliances, mosquito nets, and hot water. Beneath the house is a spacious storage area for bulky items, but scooter parking won't fit — and isn't needed, as there is a good horizontal parking space for two cars near the entrance to the yard. It's uncovered, but that's a secondary concern.
At the time of inspection the previous tenants were about to move out, so some of the furniture in the photos may not remain — check with the agent on the presence of any items important to you. An excellent option for a family with older children, since the house territory is on a mountain slope and little ones have nowhere to run, and if — heaven forbid — they climb onto the veranda railing, the drop is significant.
